Dr. Joseph Morales Joins the Office of Inclusive Excellence as Assistant Director

I am delighted to welcome Dr. Joseph Morales to the UCI Office of Inclusive Excellence. Dr. Morales will serve as the Assistant Director for Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships. In this role he will contribute to building campus capacity to become a national leader and global model of inclusive excellence. Among his duties include monitoring and advancing student success, deepening and expanding our relations with other Minority Serving Institutions, and advocating for inclusive excellence locally, regionally and nationally.

A former UCI Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellow, Dr. Morales is a respected scholar of Chicano/Latino Literature and Cultural Studies. He has not only taught at UCI, but also was a founding faculty member of the CSULB-LBUSD Ethnic Studies Initiative. Informed by his own experience as a first generation and low income student, his research and public engagement seeks to reimagine the questions of how, by whom, and for whom “knowledge” is produced. Starting his educational path at a California community college, Dr. Morales later earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Religious Studies at University of California, Santa Barbara, a master’s degree in Divinity from the University of Chicago, and a Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies from University of California, Berkeley.

Please join me in welcoming Assistant Director Joseph Morales to the Office of Inclusive Excellence.
