My Journey Through UCI into Four Decades of Medicine: Lessons on the Way to the OR

Jimmy Wood, MD’s experience as a medical student at UCI started his journey as a healer. He will speak about lessons learned as he provided care to athletes, children, victims of trauma and the elderly. He will talk about the magic of the doctor-patient relationship, and why we must view medical care as a universal human right.

Dr. Wood graduated Doctor of Medicine in 1973 from UCI where he was a standout student and the first African American graduate of UCI’s College of Medicine. He has built a fulfilling career as an impactful, culturally competent orthopedic surgeon with more than 3 decades of healthcare industry experience in patient-centered care, surgical device innovation, population health, and physician training and engagement. He is currently interested in pursuing emerging and disruptive ideas and technologies to improve health outcomes.
