Latinx Heritage Month 2025

Monday, Sep 15, 2025 - Wednesday, Oct 15, 2025

latinx heritage month
  • This event has passed.

From September 15 to October 15, Latinx Heritage Month offers a dedicated time to honor the histories, cultures, and contributions of Latinx communities in the United States. Rooted in the independence anniversaries of several Latin American countries, this celebration reflects the richness and diversity of the Latinx experience.

As part of our Honoring and Celebrating initiative, we invite the campus community to read, watch, listen, engage, reflect, and share. Whether you’re exploring these resources for the first time or reconnecting with your own heritage, we hope you find moments of insight, solidarity, and inspiration.

Additional Information about the Above Activities:

Read:

  • Como Tú / Like You / Like Me by Richard Blanco: In this piece, Blanco reflects on migration, belonging, and common humanity. The poem is written in both English and Spanish, moving fluidly between the two languages.
  • I am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Erika L. Sanchez: A teenager comes to terms with losing her sister and finds herself amid the pressures, expectations, and stereotypes of growing up in a Mexican American home.

Watch:

  • In her powerful TED Talk, "My Identity is a Superpower — Not an Obstacle," actor, director, and activist America Ferrera explores the need for authentic representation in media. She shares her personal journey in Hollywood, revealing how she once viewed her identity — her brown skin, curly hair, and Latina heritage — as barriers to success. Ferrera discusses the internalized biases she faced and how she ultimately recognized the importance of challenging the systems that uphold exclusion. Her message is a call to action: to embrace and celebrate our full identities, and to demand space for diverse voices and stories in the mainstream.
  • American Historia: Solidarity in a New Era (Public Broadcasting Service, 2024): Host John Leguizamo explores the rise of the new empire, the United States. While Latinos were often relegated to the fringes of mainstream society, they made profound contributions to the fabric of the U.S. and beyond. Reflecting on his journey, John learns that Latinos were not just an asterisk in history, but that Latino history is the history of the United States.
