The UCI Center for Medical Humanities hosts a virtual celebration of Dr. Adria L. Imada’s new book, An Archive of Skin, An Archive of Kin: Disability and Life-Making during Medical Incarceration (University of California Press, 2022).

We are delighted to convene a convivial gathering with door prizes and reflections by a team of feminist scholars. Dr. Eleana J. Kim (Anthropology, University of California Irvine), Kaʻohulani McGuire (Kalaupapa National Historical Park), and Dr. Kim Nielsen (University of Toledo) each will contribute short commentary on this innovative book.

Praised as a “deeply moving” and “field-making” contribution to the history of disability and medicine, An Archive of Skin offers an unprecedented view of the visual culture of Hansen’s disease and kinship in Hawai‘i during the longest medical quarantine in modern history.

Live captioning will be available.
