Change the Narrative, Change the World: Ethics, Explanations and Engagement

featuring

Professor Emerita, University of Bath, United Kingdom

Change – social, political or personal – depends on constructing new narratives that explain and justify our beliefs about and aspirations for good personhood, good citizenship and social order. Such new narratives do not just contradict the status quo; they profoundly shift the grounds beneath it. How do social activists – on the political left OR right – generate the ethical and explanatory narratives that enable and impel change? How does understanding this enable us to ask the right questions about unexpected socio-political events?

Learn more in this talk by famed cultural psychologist Helen Haste. Haste studies gender and civic and moral education. A professor emerita at the University of Bath in England, Haste was a visiting professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Education for 15 years. She has published widely and was president of the International Society of Political Psychology in 2002.

This event is free and open to the public. Please RSVP online. UCI guest parking is available for $2 per hour or $10 per day in the Social Science Parking Structure.
