About this event

Dr. Jacqueline Stewart, Artistic Director of the Academy of Motion Picture Museum in Los Angeles, and Professor of Film and Media Studies at the University of Chicago.

 

She has published on the history of African American film in her book, Migrating to the Movies: Cinema and Black Urban Modernity (2005), and her co-authored book, L.A. Rebellion: Creating a New Black Cinema (2015). She also co-curated the DVD set Pioneers of African American Cinema (2016) with Charles Musser.

 

Dr. Stewart has served on the National Film Preservation Board (NFPB) of the Library of Congress and chaired the NFPB Diversity Task Force. Since 2019, she has been a host of Turner Classic Movies. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.
