1:00 PM PT via ZoomNora, an entrepreneur, business leader, and pioneer in utilizing social media built an online community for Latinas to share the social capital she had built. As a national founder of Las Comadres Para Las Americas, she served as the organization’s volunteer President/CEO since its inception. The organization hosts monthly gatherings in cities across the United States and Puerto Rico. The networking organization also provides daily emails with information about events relating to books by Latino authors, performances, health, scholarships, as well as job opportunities both locally and nationally. 

About the Speaker:

Nora de Hoyos Comstock is the National and International Founder, President and CEO of Las Comadres Para Las Americas.  Founded in Austin, Texas in 2000, it is a national organization empowering and connecting Latinas through community building/networking, culture, and learning. The monthly meetings are on-line and face-to-face in cities across the US and Puerto Rico. In addition the organization shares events relating to books by Latino authors, performances, health, scholarships, as well as job opportunities.  The organization’s membership hit over 20,000 women before Facebook and other new media became the means to connect people.

Among Dr. Comstock’s community involvement: Member of Austin Community College Board of Trustees, the board of the Harvard Journal of Hispanic Policy and past chair of the Capital Area Workforce Development Board. Nora earned her Ph.D. at the University of Texas at Austin in Educational Administration, emphasis on community college management, and a B.A. in History, with a specialty in Latin America.
