Join us for this exciting FREE event! We’re thrilled to have the incredibly talented and hilarious Karen Anzoategui coming to UCI!
About the event: Karen opens up about their performance process and hxstory while leading us in a mini workshop on solo performance art.

Karen Anzoategui is a genderqueer writer/performer and artivist and emerging solo performer in Los Angeles whose gender pronouns are ‘They/Them/Theirs. They are in the cast as the re-occuring guest star role of openly queer character, Daysi Cantu, on Season 3 of the Emmy nominated original HULU series, East Los High. Karen returns to Season 4 to release in July, 2016. Other TV Credits include co starring in th CW’s Crazy Ex Girlfriend, praised for their casting in diversity. Karen has won 2 LA Weekly Awards among other honors for their original one-person play SER!

This event is part of the Queer of Color Festival at UCI.
The Queer of Color Fest is an event to celebrate queer of color artists and scholars, to provide a venue to showcase their work (films, performances, music, art, writing, research, etc.), and to open up a safe space to hold much needed discussions of intersectionality and how intersections of identity affect work generated by queer of color individuals.

All events are free and open to the public.

Mon 5/16 10:30-12pm: What is a Queer of Color Artist? Roundtable discussion with Gary Busby, Chair of Theatre; Oscar Manuel Manzo, dancer; Genevieve Jessee McCall, performer/ writer; Joey Abrego, actor. *free coffee and pastries*

Mon 5/16 12pm-2pm Lunch reception and Queer Black Arts
ARCHIVES OF HEALING, a film by Kumi James; performance by Genevieve Jessee McCall; and another TBA, followed by Q&A.

This is event is made possible with support from UCI Associated Graduate Students (AGS), the UCI Drama, Multicultural Spring, UCI Cross Cultural Center, UCI LGBT Resource Center, and Brown Bag Theatre.
