Dear Students and Colleagues,

Audiences for the “What Matters to Me and Why” series of informal discussions with respected members of our campus community continue to offer enthusiastic reviews, including for this month’s insightful talk by Professor Andrea Tenner. Thank you to all those who were able to attend this event. To view videos of past presentations, please click here.

Our next talk, Wednesday, March 8, features Michael Dennin. Dennin is a professor of physics & astronomy in the School of Physical Sciences, vice provost for Teaching & Learning and dean of the Division of Undergraduate Education. Throughout his career, he has been active in translating educational research to practical applications within the university. He is dedicated to public outreach in the area of science and has taught a variety of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) on topics such as the AMC television program “The Walking Dead.” He has appeared on numerous television programs including “Ancient Aliens” and “Science of Superman.” Most recently, he published a book on the intersection of science and faith called Divine Science.

“What Matters to Me and Why” encourages reflection about values, beliefs and motivations in the lives of those who shape our university. The series explores personal journeys – choices made, difficulties encountered, commitments formed and joys revealed – with the hope that these stories will help us to understand diverse pathways in life, work and leadership. Such understandings are crucial for fortifying tolerance, strengthening bonds, and supporting the virtues that make UCI a great institution.

We encourage you to join us March 8 to hear Vice Provost Dennin’s individual journey and unique perspectives. Please visit www.chancellor.uci.edu/whatmatters to register for the event.

Please check the website or posters on campus for the schedule of speakers.

With warm regards,
