About the Program

As an ever-growing nation of immigrants, America is perhaps the world’s most diverse society with differing ethnicities and cultures from far corners of the world living together. Through various aspects, cultures can change within time.

Being successful in the U.S. requires knowledge and skills to navigate multiple cultures on a daily basis. As Pilipinx-American students, we recognize that our peers from other ethnicities and identities travel the same road as we do – consciously and subconsciously maneuvering multiple cultures at home, at work, on campus, and beyond.

We have adapted and reconstructed a way of life that is unique to a multicultural existence in which we are challenged to assimilate with other cultures and stay true to our own identity.

In this highly participatory and engaging event, through Q&As, audio-visual presentations, students and family panels, Kababayan at UCI – the Pilipinx-American student organization – will open up the opportunity for all campus community members to come together and explore the historical, family, school and other socio-environmental forces that shape our actions, motivations, and current and future life decisions while we maneuver our daily lives through a plethora of cultures as well as seeking and discovering what it means to be defined as Pilipinx-American.
