Speakers to include: Jeffrey Kopstein (Political Science, Jewish Studies), Tyrus Miller (Dean of UCI School of Humanities, professor of English & Art History), Susan Morrissey (History), and Allison Perlman (Film & Media Studies, History).

This Forum for the Academy and the Public “Pop-Up” panel will strive to put the news of the last week into perspective, in part by comparing and contrasting recent actions to things that have taken place in the past, both in the United States and in other parts of the world.

Event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited; please arrive early to ensure a seat.

 

 
 

 

About the UCI Forum for the Academy and the Public

The UCI Forum for the Academy and the Public is a collaborative project between the Literary Journalism Program, the School of Humanities, and the School of Law that bridges the university and the public through conferences and pop-ups that tackle the most pressing issues of our time. Led by Amy Wilentz (Literary Journalism) and Jeff Wasserstrom (History) and international in scope, the Forum has tackled issues such as freedom of expression, justice and incarceration, and fake news. Former participants include a range of journalists, activists, scholars and creatives. The 2018 conference, “Fire and Ice: The Shifting Narrative of Climate Change,” will take place February 8 and 9 and will feature Bill McKibben, author of The End of Nature, as keynote.
