Psychology and Social Behavior Colloquium

The Department of Psychology and Social Behavior along with the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science (ICTS) are co-sponsoring Dr. Amelia Arria, Associate Professor, Department of Behavioral and Community Health at the University of Maryland. Dr. Arria is the Principal Investigator on the College Life Study, a longitudinal prospective study of health-risk behaviors among college students. Her research focuses on risk and resiliency factors associated with the development of mental health and substance use among adolescents and young adults, as well as the consequences of untreated mental health conditions and substance use. Her most recent area of interest lies in understanding how these issues can interfere with academic achievement, and what can be done to promote student success. Dr. Arria is visiting UCI to help kick off the UCIs Healthy Campus 2020 Initiative.

Healthy Campus 2020 is a framework adopted by interested university campuses, including UCI, to improve the overall health status on our campus. It was created through a collaboration between the American College Health Association and nearly a dozen academic and organizational institutions.

Dr. Arria, with her expertise in Campus Health and her leadership role in the Maryland Collaborative to Reduce College Drinking and Related Problems, an initiative that brings together Maryland colleges to address the problem of excessive alcohol consumption and its consequences on their campuses and in their communities, is one of our Healthy Campus 2020 expert advisors.

The Colloquium is open to the public. The location is at the Social and Behavioral Sciences Gateway, building #214 on the campus map For more information, email Robynn Zender, rzender@uci.edu.
