“Trans Day of Remembrance: Honoring and Vigil.”

This event is created with the intention to draw attention towards the systematic violence that trans folks—specifically trans women of color—experience in their daily lives. We remember those who have been a victim of violence just within the past year and we also aim to celebrate the livelihood that is the resilience and light of the trans community. We recognize and acknowledge the leaders of the community for the work that is already being done, and we hold ourselves accountable for assisting in the work that is to be done.

This is also a space that we create where trans and non-binary folks are given the opportunity to openly and safely voice their grief and their grievances. Priority of speaking will be given to the members of this community, and participants are asked to actively listen. Allyship must be taken into account for folks who do not identify within the trans community so that trans and non-binary folks feel recognized and protected. In the event where the participants encounter hostility, we will have trained allies of the community and less-vulnerable bodies respond accordingly.
