The UC Chicano/Latino Advisory Council is pleased to announce the 4th Annual Leadership Summit, Cultivating Leadership Among UC’s Chicanx/Latinx Faculty and Staff. This is the first in a ​series of online event​s to gather ​faculty, staff and administrators from across the UC system to ​engage in a discussion about advancing leadership and career pathways. Join your colleagues as we examine ​a range of critical issues affecting the success ​of Chicanx/Latinx professionals and develop strategies for preparing our next generation of leaders.

The September 20th event kicks off a series of online conversations centered on creating a thriving community for UC Chicanx/Latinx faculty, staff and administrators at all levels.

Keynote Speaker:
Michael V. Drake, President, University of California

Dr. Michael V. Drake was appointed the 21st president of the University of California in August 2020. He oversees UC’s world-renowned system of 10 campuses, five medical centers, three nationally affiliated labs, more than 280,000 students and 230,000 faculty and staff. He previously served as president of The Ohio State University from 2014 through June 2020. Prior to OSU, he served in several roles at UC, including nine years as chancellor of UC Irvine and five years as the systemwide vice president for health affairs. President Drake received his A.B. from Stanford University and his M.D., residency and fellowship in ophthalmology from UCSF.

Juan Sánchez Muñoz
Dr. Muñoz joined UC Merced as the school’s fourth chancellor from the University of Houston Downtown (UHD), where he served as president. Within his first year at UHD he launched the university’s largest capital campaign and led the institution’s recovery efforts after Hurricane Harvey. He is the author of book chapters, academic articles, essays, refereed and invited conference presentations and professor in the Department of Sociology. In 2010, Chancellor Muñoz was among the contributing editors of the seminal compilation, the Handbook of Latinos and Education.

Stephanie Reyes-Tuccio, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Educational Partnerships and Executive Director of the Center for Educational Partnerships, UC Irvine
Stephanie Reyes-Tuccio
Dr. Reyes-Tuccio oversees collaborations between the university and community stakeholders advancing equity and access for underserved students. Working across public education segments, Dr. Reyes-Tuccio leads efforts to bring first-generation, low-income and students from underrepresented groups to and through the UC system. She is an architect of UC Irvine’s unique model of educational excellence and access, earning the university its top place — four years running — on The New York Times College Access Index of U. S. universities doing the most for the American dream and the social mobility of graduates.
