Dear students and colleagues,
You are invited to attend the “Great Debate” 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, in Emerald Bay AB, UCI Student Center, featuring students from the newly formed UCI Speech and Debate Club. Six students will face off in pairs to debate three hot topics:
Please register for this debate here. A post-debate reception will take place after the debates. The “Great Debates Series” is designed to develop proactive, informed, and conscientious citizens and future leaders, by providing a forum for respectful and substantive discussion of contentious issues in today’s world. The series will exemplify civil discourse within our campus community through organized debates. The topics selected for debate will be relevant and interesting for students, staff and faculty. A post-debate reception will follow the event, so participants can delve deeper into the topic, explore communication styles, or simply enjoy good conversation. This debate is co-sponsored by the UCI Speech and Debate Club. Sincerely, Daniel Wehrenfennig Executive Director, Olive Tree Initiative and Program in Conflict Analysis and Resolution Vice-Chair, Advisory Council on Campus Climate, Culture and Inclusion |
Nicole Mitchell Professor, Music, Claire Trevor School of the Arts Vice-Chair, Advisory Council on Campus Climate, Culture and Inclusion
