Official Launch of New Dreamers Website
Student Affairs is proud to announce the official launch of our new and improved Dreamers Website http://dreamers.uci.edu/ This site will serve as an information hub for programs, services, and resources for students who identify as AB540, Dreamers, and Undocumented. The site is now interactive, provides access to additional resources, and contains integrated social media buttons for Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to foster improved communication with users. The incident centered on a film-viewing event sponsored by Students Supporting Israel. A group of protesters reportedly disrupted the event, blocking exit paths. Inclusion at UCI
Dear Campus Community, A number of posters, advertising a student-sponsored event, have appeared on campus using offensive language directed at members of the campus community. One such poster included the word “faggotry”. Homophobia as well as other forms of bias contradicts our campus’ enduring commitment to inclusive excellence. Let me be clear: bigotry has no place here or anywhere. This type of incident should be a reminder about what connects us: UCI. Professor Roxane Silver appointed Associate Director of the UCI ADVANCE Program
Dear Colleagues, I am delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Roxane Silver as Associate Director of the UCI ADVANCE Program in the Office of Inclusive Excellence, effective April 1, 2016. In this role, Dr. Silver will be principally responsible for directing the Diverse Educational Community and Doctoral Experience (DECADE) Faculty Mentors Program. Originally funded by a US Department of Education grant to Graduate Division, the purpose of DECADE is to advance inclusive excellence in graduate education. Assistant Professor Franklin Dollar and Assistant Professor Chang Liu honored as 2016 Sloan Fellows
We congratulate UCI faculty members Franklin Dollar and Chang Liu who have been selected as 2016 Sloan Fellows, a significant distinction for early career scientists. The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation announced the awards on Feb. 23. Franklin Dollar, assistant professor in physics and astronomy, specializes in plasma physics, and is a member of the Dry Creek Band of Pomo Indians. His lab studies the interaction of light at extremely high intensities with the fourth state of matter, plasma. New study demonstrates the effectiveness of UCI Equity Advisor Model
UCI Works to ADVANCE Women in Higher Education: Professor Judy Stepan-Norris and her co-author demonstrate that UCI out-performed other UC campuses in hiring women faculty during the study period (1993-2009). Professor Stepan-Norris shows that the Equity Advisor model together with greater transparency in the search process contributed to impressive hiring gains after 2001.
