What is the significance of a national flag? Does its symbolic meaning change during a war? During a time of crisis, is a national flag to be reverenced or despised, protected or destroyed? In A Play About Flags, two Iranian women work in a flag factory in Tehran amidst escalating tensions between Iran and the US and a constant threat of war. In the lives of these ordinary Iranians, survival takes a different meaning as they barely make ends meet. In their deepest despair, they are fighting to sustain their hopes and dreams for the better future.
A Play About Flags is a new play written by Talin Abadian, PhD student in Drama and recipient of the Medici Scholarship Award and Jordan Center for Persian Studies Summer Fellowship. The live Zoom reading is directed by Talin Abadian and performed by Sara Mashayekh and Rania Zeineddine. The play reading (about 30 minutes) is followed by a discussion.
