Please join us for a conversation with nationally-acclaimed author Dr. Reuben Miller. This event will start with a book talk by Dr. Miller, followed by a moderated discussion facilitated by Bryan Sykes (UCI Inclusive Excellence Term Chair Professor), with a panel of speakers, including Amanda Geller (UCI faculty and policing expert), Gabe Rosales (President of UCI’s Underground Scholars Initiative), and Bobby Waltman (Attorney with the Orange County’s Public Defender’s Office).
Amanda Geller is Assistant Professor of Criminology, Law, and Society at the University of California, Irvine. Her research sits at the intersection of criminal justice and social inequality, with attention to interactions between the police and youth, and the role of incarceration in families.
Gabe Rosales is a formerly incarcerated second year doctoral student in the Criminology, Law and Society Department at UC Irvine. Gabe has been a professional musician for over 2 decades and is an arts program provider in Donovan State Prison.
Bobby Waltman is a criminal defense attorney who has worked at the Orange County Public Defender’s Office since 2014. He is also Secretary on the Board of H.I.R.E., a re-entry nonprofit based in Orange County.
