Encountering Oceans Explorations of Space, Time, and the Human Oct. 1, 2020
5:00-6:00 p.m.
The Humanities Center is launching a new Conversations That Matter series for 2020-2021 that focuses on Oceans. These vast bodies of water provoke the human imagination, arouse emotions of fear and nostalgia, and are sites of pleasure, contemplation, heroism, and death. Join us to explore how scholars, writers, and artists have tried to understand the oceans and what the oceans tells us about our relationship to the non-human and the environment.
Introduction: Lorelei Tanji, University Librarian
Opening Remarks: Angela Mooney D’Arcy, Acjachemen, Sacred Places Institute for Indigenous Peoples
Moderator: Tyrus Miller, Dean of School of Humanities
Speakers:
Alex Borucki, History, Center for Latin American Studies
