Dr. Irma Lawrence of NIFA/USDA will be on campus to share Hispanic Serving-Institutions (HSI) funding and internship opportunities for faculty, postdocs, and professional research staff.

Areas of interest to Dr. Lawrence include:

• Climate Change
• Sustainable Energy
• Childhood Obesity
• Global Food Security and Hunger

DR. IRMA ALEMAR LAWRENCE has spent the last seventeen years as a National Program Leader at the USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). As part of NIFA’s Division of Communities and Education, Dr. Lawrence participates in the administration and implementation of programs and initiatives dedicated to promoting quality of education in the food and agricultural sciences, including the Hispanic-Serving Institutions Education Grants Program. In September 2016, USDA presented her with the Abraham Lincoln Honor Award for her dedication and outstanding contributions to building capacity of teaching, research, and outreach programs at minority serving institutions.
