Reflections on the Black Panther
Oakland Community School Project
Thursday, November 4, 2021
12-1 p.m.
In Winter 2021, a new UCI humanities research cluster was formed to focus on the Oakland Community School (1973-1982), the longest-running serve-the-people program of the Black Panther Party. In the summer, the BPOCS research cluster hosted its first fellowship program with 8 undergraduate and 2 graduate students working with independent scholar Angela LeBlanc-Ernest to research the history and create a documentary film about the OCS. Join us as members of our research cluster reflect on the contemporary relevance of this radical pedagogical experiment.
Topics include:
- community-centered archives
- digital humanities
- documentary filmmaking
- education
- historical storytelling
