WEDNESDAY FEB 9, 2022, 5:00-7:00pm. “Hella Black Mexican”: A Conversation with Creator Ehcrama Marche. Ehcrama is a writer, filmmaker and editor. Born and raised in Montebello, CA she quickly discovered her passion for creating. She’s worked on set as a Cinematographer, Camera Assistant and Art Director. Ehcrama has worked on a variety of projects from Music Videos, Short Films, Commercials, and Feature Films. Since graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Film, Ehcrama has worked as a director of photography, art director and animator with her latest creative venture being the creator of an Animated, Cartoon, Telenovela Series called, “Hella Black Mexican” on YouTube. RSVP

 

THURSDAY, FEB 10, 2022. Black Nonsense (Or, Black Radical Utterances in the Idiom of Madness). This event is part of the “Mental Health in a Time of Pandemic” series. Professor Bruce’s talk begins with a meditation on “mad” black captives in the novels and short stories of Richard Wright, Gayl Jones, and Ntozake Shange. While confined in jails and psychiatric hospitals, these captives use idioms of madness to critique the antiblack and antimad worlds around them. RSVP

 

FRIDAY, FEB 11, 2022, UCI Stay @Homecoming, Teaching and Learning in a Changing World. The panel will feature Keith Curry, UCI alum and current president/CEO of Compton College. This panel discussion will address opportunities for innovation, broadening access, improving educational equity and promoting parent engagement across K-12 into postsecondary education.

FRIDAY FEB 25, 2022, 3:00-4:00pm. Making History: The Evolution of Cancer Health Equity through Transdisciplinary Science with Chanita Hughes-Halbert. Inaugural Black History month lecture presented by the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Hughes-Halbert serves as the Associate Director for Cancer Equity at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. She is a nationally recognized leader in cancer prevention and minority health research who has dedicated her career to reducing the disparities in cancer outcomes that affect patients from underrepresented communities, with a primary focus on African American communities.  RSVP
