“Winners”: Iranian Film Screening and Conversation with Director Omid Abdollahi ♥

What is the definition of the American Dream? Achieving success and happiness through hard work and perseverance? How do immigrants fulfill their American dreams? Can you imagine if the opportunity to pursue your dream is based on a lottery system?
“Winners” (original title: Barandegan) by Omid Abdollahi is an Iranian documentary about immigration to the US, via the system of the United States Green Card Lottery. The film examines two lucky Iranian winners, Shahriyar and Shahab, who come from two generations and very different life conditions and have very different perspectives.
The film is in Persian with English subtitle. The length is 53 minutes.
Omid Abdollahi, the film director will join the conversation from Iran after the screening. Talin Abadian, Drama PhD student will translate and facilitate the event.
About the director:
Omid Abdollahi, an Iran based film maker, has started his film career in the 1990s. He has won Bronze Medal from Festival of Nations, Ebensee, Austria, the IDFA Bertha Fund award, the Jury Prize from Ismailia International Film Festival, and the Jury Mention Special Prize from Clermont Ferrand International Short Film Festival. He is now a member of Iranian Short Film Association (ISFA) and Iranian Documentary Filmmakers Association.
