REFRAMING THE NARRATIVE:
A Roundtable Discussion on the Inspiration and Impacts of Community-focused Research
Friday June 2, 2023 11:00am-1:30pm
Social and Behavioral Sciences Gateway (SBSG) 1517
- How do scholars examining Blackness and Black life view research as part of their liberatory visions?
- How can we advance community-engaged research that is empowering rather than extractive for partner members?
- How can collaborative research break down arbitrary disciplinary divides to surface generative knowledge?
Join us as we reframe the narrative around research, in a roundtable discussion that brings together UCI researchers collaborating across history, theory, social sciences, health sciences, cultural studies, and computer sciences. We’ll explore the capacity of interdisciplinary research to reshape our understanding of ourselves and our relationships with the community.
Immediately following the roundtable, join us on the SBSG patio for lunch and mixing, as we strive to build a sense of collective community among Black faculty and students at UCI.
RSVP HERE by Friday May 26
This roundtable and mixer is organized by Office of Inclusive Excellence Black Term Chair Dr. Davin L. Phoenix
