Dear campus community, From coast to coast, Asian and Asian-American communities are experiencing an alarming number of acts of bias, prejudice and bigotry. From 2019 to 2020 alone, nearly 3,000 acts were reported. Orange County is no exception. Here the Human Rights Commission reports a 10-fold increase in anti-Asian incidents and crimes. These disturbing trends do not include under reported incidents of verbal harassment, spitting and other forms of intimidation and physical violence that can take place anywhere — on the street or sidewalk, in a neighborhood park, a shopping center or mall, or place of work among others. Dear Campus Community This spring quarter is like no other. COVID-19 has demanded more from each of us than we imagined at the start of 2020. Dr. Sora Han Receives 2nd Annual Frances Leslie DECADE Mentor Excellence Award ♥ ★
Dr. Sora Han, Associate Professor in the Department of Criminology, Law and Society (CLS), the School of Law, and the Department of African American Studies, and the Director of the PhD Program in Culture and Theory in the School of Humanities, is the 2020 recipient of the Frances M. Leslie DECADE Mentor Excellence Award. As part of an ongoing partnership with APIA Scholars, 6 UCI students received AANAPISI Scholarship Program awards in AY 19-20, totaling $22,500. To date, UCI students have been awarded $57,500 through this program (AY 17-18, 18-19, and 19-20).
