Islamophobia – Addressing Stereotypes
Dear Campus Community, The Office of Inclusive Excellence is launching a new YouTube Channel entitled Spotlight Series. The purpose of this series is to explore and raise awareness about issues that affect our campus and wider society, including anti-Semitism, gender equity, free speech, and immigration among others. The topic of the first installment is Islamophobia or fear of Islam and Muslim people. Deconstruction Zone at the Cross-Cultural Center
Dear Colleagues, The Cross-Cultural Center is being transformed into Deconstruction Zone during Week 4 (April 24-28). Deconstruction Zone is an annual spring event open to the broader campus community that aims to educate participants about various forms of oppression and engage them in current social issues via film screenings, interactive exhibits, and educational passives. I invite you to explore our exhibits and passives, participate in guided and self-guided tours, and watch film screenings. Note that self-guided tours will take place all week. Dear colleagues, Recipients of the 2016-17 Inclusive Excellence Spirit Awards at UCI provide innovative approaches to advance diversity, equity and inclusion. An array of eight projects representing five academic units are currently underway across the campus. The projects range from clinical research to reduce post-surgery pain for vulnerable populations, to a math festival to raise awareness about issues limiting student success, to explorations through song, language, disciplinary forums, and other modes that highlight unique cultural contributions in arts, humanities and other areas.
